Seasoned by the trials of time, this ancient tale tells the story of a struggle for power and survival. In the heart of China's old capital, an elderly king named Wen Ding sat upon his throne, as his advisors presented their concerns about the rising threat from the west. The kingdom of Zhou had been growing in strength since its founding by King Tang, who had moved his people from their humble beginnings in Fu to the majestic mountains of Qi.
The advisors urged Wen Ding to take action against Zhou's increasing power and influence. But one young official dared to propose a different strategy: "Let us invite King Ji Li and his son into our court with honors and rewards," he suggested. "Once they are here...". His words trailed off ominously.
Wen Ding listened carefully to all suggestions before making up his mind. He knew that he was old and not fit for this world anymore; but Emperor Etu Wang was too kind-hearted, worried about potential dangers on all sides.
