One notable appearance is in Journey to the West—a famous novel written during China's Ming dynasty (1368-1644). In this epic tale about four travelers journeying through China while trying to retrieve sacred scriptures from India for Buddhist enlightenment purposes—the Monkey King Sun Wukong encounters Meng Po during his adventures.
Sun Wukong initially mistakes Meng Po for his long-lost love after consuming some magical flowers which grant him immortality but also make him susceptible to false illusions created by demons disguising themselves as loved ones.
