Yang decided to use this opportunity to his advantage, ordering the people to pour water on the city walls. Overnight, the water froze into a thick layer of ice that covered the entire wall. The next morning, when the enemy tried to scale the wall, they found it impossible due to its icy surface.
The soldiers below were slipping and sliding as they tried to climb up, while those who managed to reach halfway down would slide back down again. Meanwhile, soldiers hiding behind the parapet took advantage of this situation and launched a fierce counterattack with rocks and arrows. The enemy suffered heavy losses before finally retreating.
Yang's victory was celebrated throughout China, earning him further honors from Emperor Zhenzong. He was promoted from Patrol Inspector in Liaodong (now Liaoning) to Steward of Mozhou (now Renqiu County in Hebei). Over time he became known as "the hero of Mozhou" for his bravery against foreign invaders.
When Yang passed away at age 57 in Mozhou, he was given a grand funeral with full military honors by both civilian officials and soldiers who had served under him during their campaigns against invasions from northern tribes such as Khitan or Tanguts; there were many tears shed by those present at this event too! His tomb remains an important historical landmark today where people still pay respects annually during certain festivals like Qixi Festival which falls on August 29th each year since 1984 when UNESCO declared it an Intangible Cultural Heritage Site for China along with other cultural practices associated with women's rights within family life cycle rituals - these celebrations include offerings made directly upon gravesites themselves but also indirectly through prayers said aloud near them without ever actually touching any part physically because then it could cause defilement accordingly so please refrain yourself now if you wish not disturb others' peace while here doing what we all do daily anyway already always every single day till death comes knocking our doorsteps one last time before leaving forever gone never coming back anymore than once maybe twice thrice etcetera ad infinitum until infinity ends itself becoming nothing more than just another old story told around campfires long after we've gone our separate ways into oblivion darkness silence eternal rest
