Pangu Creates the World The Birth of Chinas Gods a
In the beginning, there was only chaos. No earth, no sky, no mountains or rivers. Just an endless expanse of nothingness. From this void emerged Pangu, a giant egg that contained all of creation within it.
The Birth of Pangu
As the story goes, Pangu was born from a cosmic egg that floated in the void for 18,000 years before hatching. When he finally emerged from his shell, he stretched and yawned and began to separate himself into two halves – one side became heaven and the other earth.
The Creation of Heaven and Earth
Pangu stood on one half while using his mighty strength to push against the other with both hands until they were far apart enough to form what we know today as our universe. He then created four pillars to hold up heaven and established five elements – wood, fire, metal, water and soil – which are still revered in Chinese culture today.
The Emergence of Gods
After creating heaven and earth, Pangu went on to create all manner of creatures including gods who would rule over them. These gods were known as Tianzun (Celestial Worthy) who ruled over heavenly affairs while another group called Xiwangmu (Queen Mother) controlled earthly matters.
Yin-Yang Philosophy
Pangu also introduced Yin-Yang philosophy which is based on opposing forces like light-darkness-good-evil-male-female etc., but ultimately seeking balance between them for harmony in life.
Chinese Mythology Today
Today Chinese mythology continues to be an integral part of Chinese culture with many festivals celebrating these stories such as Spring Festival where families gather together for reunion dinners featuring traditional dishes like dumplings symbolizing wealth & good fortune during New Year celebrations.
