The Tale Begins
Once upon a time in ancient China lived two young lovers: Zhinü (the Weaving Maiden) from heaven and Niulang (the Cowherd) from earth. Their fates intertwined when they met at a riverbank one day while Zhinü was on her way to visit her parents who resided on earth for a short period.
A Heavenly Match
Zhinü fell deeply in love with Niulang at first sight; their bond grew stronger over time as they spent more days together sharing stories about their lives before meeting each other. Eventually, Niulang proposed to Zhinü with his cowhide whip – which he had crafted himself – symbolizing his devotion by using something precious from his life on earth.
A Divine Union
Their union was blessed by both heaven and earth; however, their happiness was not destined to last forever due to an unfortunate prophecy made by Chang'e - Goddess of Moonlight - who foretold them that if they ever married without permission from her husband Yúhuáng Shàngdi (Emperor Jade), she would use all her powers against them.
