Gaining Supernatural Powers
Sun Wukong gained his incredible strength after eating peaches given by Chang'e (the goddess of immortality). He then used these powers to rule over the mountain where he lived and even challenged heaven itself.
Banished from Heaven
Sun Wukong caused chaos in heaven when he stole peaches meant for immortals only. As punishment, Buddha bound him with five hundred heavy iron chains which were so strong that no mortal could break them.

One day while wandering through forests filled with demons and spirits searching for food or shelter, Sun Wukong encountered Tang Sanzang (a Buddhist monk) who had just lost his disciples due to their death at the hands of demons during their journey westward pilgrimage.

Tang Sanzang took pity on Sun Wukong and freed him from his chains but warned him not to cause any more trouble if they were going together on their journey westward pilgrimage.
