The twins parachuted into enemy territory, using their unique skills to gather intelligence and carry out sabotage operations. Their success was a major blow to the Nazi war effort.
But their bravery came at a cost. After being captured by the Germans during another operation, they were imprisoned in Buchenwald concentration camp. There, they continued to work for the resistance from behind bars, sending coded messages and helping others escape.

In 1944, just before D-Day, Philibert (as he was known) escaped from prison but his brother Claude did not survive captivity. He died of starvation and disease in Buchenwald less than two months after his capture.
After France's liberation that summer, Philibert returned home but never spoke about his wartime experiences until many years later when he wrote an autobiography called "Les Deux Frères" or "The Two Brothers".
